Sericulture: our production 2022/2023

The first cocoon, still under construction and not yet solid

May 2022: Our Italian eggs arrived with courier and were placed in the incubator. They hatched early morning and were fed with tender mulberry leaves. 100 000 eggs weighing in total, around 50 grammes… in about one month they will have multiplied their weight by 10 000. If compared to a baby, it would be 10 meters high and would weigh 40 tons!!!

June 2022 : While our silkworms were producing their beautiful cocoons, new eggs hatched in the incubator and were placed in the nursery.

July 2022: Our baby silkworms developed harmoniously and are about to produce their cocoons: a crucial moment as diseases contracted during small ages, may appear at this time. We are confident but vigilant until harvesting our cocoons.

August 2022: We harvested our cocoons , weighted and stored them for the reeling season which will start in the fall when the weather will be milder. We are happy with our 2022 production

,November 2022: We are now reeling our cocoons with our cottage reeling machine, a slow process which will last all winter, and will give us the precious raw silk for our scarves.

February 2023: We are still reeling our cocoons and kilos of raw silk are adding. They will be used for our scarves. Children from schools come to visit and learn about the work in a spinning mill.
